Completing the Doctoral Degree Requirements


  • Submit a complete, final, unbound paper copy of your dissertation along with two copies of your abstract and one extra copy of your title page.

  • Submit required paperwork (provided prior to the oral defense), including:

    • Survey of Earned Doctorates

    • ProQuest/UMI Publishing Agreement



  • Apply for graduation through Wolverine Access.

  • At your post-defense meeting, you will receive instructions on how to submit the dissertation online in PDF format. You will also need to copy and paste the text of your abstract for the online submission. OR you may take (or mail) a final complete copy of your dissertation, without abstract, along with payment for the binding to a Rackham approved bindery. Submit (or have the bindery submit) this receipt to OARD.

  • Verify that your committee chair has submitted the Final Oral Examination Report form and the Certificate of Dissertation Committee Approval form to OARD.

  • After your doctoral degree requirements have been completed, your student financial account will be assessed a $70 fee for mandatory publishing with ProQuest/UMI.

  • Students are encouraged to complete the online exit survey of Rackham Doctoral Recipients.
